Meet the Owner — Kinsley Denning
Kinsley Denning started his slating apprenticeship at 16 and qualified as a slater at 19, learning the trade the way it has always been passed down: on the roof, from someone who already knew it. He spent 15 years working across South Wales, North Wales and North West England, much of it on heritage-listed buildings, before bringing that experience to Sydney, where he has now lived and worked for 8 years.
Kinsley co-manages NSW Slate Roofing alongside General Manager Craig Walker, and between them they bring over 30 years of combined roofing experience to every job, from a single repair to a full heritage rebuild. You’ll still find Kinsley on-site, not just in the office; he worked on the Armidale Cathedral heritage roofing project alongside the wider team.

What is Slate?
Slate roofing is a natural stone roofing product, best thought of as metamorphosed shale. Its main constituents are mica and quartz, alongside a range of other minerals depending on where it was quarried. People have roofed with slate for thousands of years, and it’s easy to see why: a well-installed slate roof can last as long as 175 years, and it’s durable, fire-resistant and water-resistant.
